Why we make shito the way we do, and why we named it after a symbol of trust.
Gye Nyame Premium Shito started the way most good food does — in a home kitchen, made in small batches for family and friends who kept asking for more. Chilli pepper, onion, oil, shrimp, herrings and natural spices, simmered slowly until it turned dark, rich and unmistakably shito.
We named it Gye Nyame after the Adinkra symbol that means "except for God" — a mark the Akan people of Ghana have used for generations to represent trust, permanence and something worth standing behind. That's the standard we hold the recipe to every time we make a batch.
No preservatives, no shortcuts — just chilli pepper, onion, oil, shrimp, herrings and natural spices.
Every batch is simmered slowly to build the dark, rich flavour that gives shito its depth.
Jars and sachets are packed by hand in Ghana, in small batches, one order at a time.
Named after a symbol of trust passed down for generations — the same trust we put in this recipe.
